Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has bought the bat put up for auction by Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim for USD 20,000. The aim was to help people of Bangladesh fighting with COVID-19.

Rahim had used this bat during his memorable innings of 200 against Sri Lanka in the Galle Test of 2013.

The Bangladeshi player made the announcement on his Facebook, saying, “Shahid Afridi bought the bat on behalf of his charity organization. I feel privileged and honored that someone like him has joined our great cause,” he said.

“We had to suspend the auction due to some fraud bidders, which was unexpected. Shahid Bhai personally contacted me after seeing the news (of my bat put on auction). He sent an offer letter on May 13 that he was interested to buy for USD 20,000, which is almost BDT 16.8 lakh,” Rahmi added.

The proceeds will go towards COVID-19 relief efforts in Bangladesh.

He also thanked the Pakistani cricketer for supporting him in the cause. Afridi too praised Rahim for his work towards humanity. “The work you are doing is great. Only real-life heroes do this. We are going through a tough phase in such times we need the love and support of each other,” Afridi said in the video message.

For the last few weeks, Afridi’s routine has been quite hectic. The former Pakistan captain starts his day early and reaches out to those in need of help. As the founder of the Shahid Afridi Foundation, the 40-year-old has been donating food, disinfectant soap, masks, and other amenities to the needy in Pakistan. His efforts have earned him praises from across the world.

Afridi requested people from India and Pakistan to come out and show humanity instead of hatred. He also thanked his old friends, Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh for praising him for his charitable work. The Indian cricketers also landed in hot water for supporting Afridi for the good cause.

We love you, Lala! when in need, he always comes forward to help the people of Pakistan.
