Here is how you can protect yourself from this deadly virus with these powerful duas.
Dua for protection from any illness
This dua for protection from illness should be our constant prayer at this time – and it carries an important reminder that our refuge is always in Allah (SWT).
.اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبَرَصِ، وَالْجُنُونِ، وَالْجُذَامِ، وَمِنْ سَيِّئِ الأَسْقَامِ
“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from leprosy, insanity, elephantiasis, and the worst of disease” (Abu Dawud).
Dua for leaving the house
Many of us may be fearful of leaving home at this time, but the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, “Whoever says upon leaving his house:
.بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ، تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللّٰهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللّٰهِ
“In the Name of Allah, I have placed my trust in Allah; there is no might and no power except by Allah.”
When a person recites this dua, he/she will be under the protection of Allah. Consequently, the devil will go far from the person. (Abu-Dawood)
Dua for protection against calamities
This dua for protection against any unexpected calamities is a powerful supplication to Allah (SWT) to help and save us from every crisis:
.اللَّهُمَّ احْفَظْنِي مِنْ بَينِ يَدَيَّ, وَمِنْ خَلْفِي, وَعَنْ يَمِينِي, وَعَنْ شِمَالِي وَمِنْ فَوْقِي, وَأَعُوذُ بِعَظَمَتِكَ أَن أُْغْتَالَ مِنْ تَحْتِي
“O Allah protect me from my front, behind me, from my right and my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being taken unaware from beneath me”. (Ibn Majah)
Dua for sickness
During any course of illness, we certainly seek medical attention. But for a Muslim, the real recovery is when he/she prays to Allah (SWT) for Shifa. Hazrat Aisha (R.A) narrates that when anyone among them had an illness, our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to rub the area of the pain and recite the following dua for protection:
.اللَّهُمَّ ربَّ النَّاسِ ، أَذْهِب الْبَأسَ ، واشْفِ ، أَنْتَ الشَّافي لا شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ ، شِفاءً لا يُغَادِرُ سقَماً
“O Allah, Lord of mankind, do away with my suffering. Heal (me) as You are the only Healer and there is no cure except that of Yours, it is that which leaves no ailment behind”. (Bukhari)
Dua for fear and anxiety
There are certain circumstances when you possess feelings of anxiety and fear. Not knowing what to do next, you should recite this dua, calling Allah’s help from the heaven above.
.اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِيهِمْ بِماَ شِئْتَ
“O Allah, suffice (i.e. protect) me against them however You wish”. (Muslim)
Dua for protection of family from every evil
It is said that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to say the following dua for the protection of his grandsons: Hasan (R.A) and Husayn (R.A). This is beautiful dua counts for the protection of our family members, especially children.
.أَعُوذُ بِكلِمَاتِ الله التّامّاتِ مِن شَرّ مَا خَلَقَ
“I seek protection in the perfect words of Allah from every evil that has been created”. (Muslim)
Additionally, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also taught us to “Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity”. (Tirmidhi)
The key to being a devout Muslim is to remember praying to Allah and constantly doing Dhikr. These duas are for our protection in dark times such as this COVID-19 pandemic.
